Brave Soldiers are Real Life Heroes

Araw ng Kagitingan or The Day of Valor is a national observance in the Philippines that is celebrated on April 9 every year. This is to commemorate the heroism of those brave soldiers who have fought in the Battle of Bataan. An occasion to honor those Filipino, Chinese and American veterans who sacrificed their lives when the Japanese occupied the Philippines during World War II for the peace and freedom of our country.

Back in April 9, 1942, Major General Edward P. King of the United States Army was pushed to surrender over 76,000 Filipinos, Chinese, and American soldiers to the Japanese. The soldiers were made to walk 90 miles (145 kilometers) to San Fernando's Camp O'Donnell. Thousands of soldiers died from starvation, dehydration, and diseases before reaching the camp during the hike, also known as the Bataan Death March.

The Day of Valor or the “Araw ng Kagitingan” was really made for them to pay tribute to those who helped bring democracy and freedom to the Philippines during the World War II era. They are indeed a hero and true soldiers, so let us all give them a salute.
