In Honor of St. Paul the Apostle
Festival is a big part of the Filipino culture. We love to get involved in fun and gatherings with family, relatives, and friends. Festival helps us to embrace our culture and religion. Each place has its own fiesta that they are very proud of. Like Vigan City Festival, that is celebrated every 25th of January in honor of St. Paul the Apostle, the city’s patron saint.
Back when I was a kid, we used to live in Vigan. During the town fiesta, I remember when my mom wakes me up early in the morning to watch the parade. A lot of people and many colorful floats are coming. In the afternoon, group of people and students are performing streetdancing. The famous Calle Crisologo were congested by a lot of people. And in the evening, people are going to carnival to have fun, relax and rides. We are also roaming around the city to the trade fair to taste every delicious food after a long tiring but happy day. So many local and tourists there to experience our culture and traditions.
It’s very sad that due to the current surge of Covid-19 cases in Ilocos Sur and nearby provinces, Vigan Town Fiesta is postponed. Celebrating festival amidst the pandemic is very challenging. We are having a hard time to adjust in the new normal. But if we can celebrate like we used to before, we can find ways to make the celebration possible as long as we follow health protocols and get vaccinated to ensure every person are safe in the festival.
